Content:  

One vaccination dose (1 ml) contains:

Herpesvirus equorum inactivatum (EHV-1)   Min. 2.1 log10 VNI1

1 virus-neutralizing index in hamster serum

Adjuvant: oil adjuvant (Montanide ISA 35 VG)     0.25 ml

Excipients:  thiomersal  0.1 mg

The vaccine is oily liquid of creamy-white, yellowish or slight pink colour, with easily dispersible sediment.

Indication:

Intended for active immunization of horses with the aim to reduce occurrence of respiratory infection and clinical signs caused by equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) and to reduce occurrence of abortions in pregnant mares caused by the equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) infection.

Onset of active immunity: 14 days after the basic vaccination

Duration of active immunity: 6 months after re-vaccination

Contraindications:

None.

Adverse reactions:

In connection with the performed vaccination temporary rise in body temperature may be seen. Sporadically, an anaphylactic reaction may occur. In this case the symptomatic treatment should be provided.

If you notice any severe adverse drug reactions or other reactions not stated in this package insert please report them to your veterinarian.

Target species:

Horses.

Dosage:

A vaccination dose – 1 ml.  The vaccine is applied deep into the muscle (intramuscularly).

Vaccination schedule:

The first vaccination at the age of 6 months; the second vaccination after 4 weeks.

Re-vaccination:

The first re-vaccination (dose 3) is applied 3 months after the basic vaccination, and subsequent re-vaccinations are applied every 6 months.

Vaccination of pregnant mares:

In order to reduce occurrence of abortions caused by equine herpesvirus, the first dose (dose 1) of the vaccine is applied to pregnant mares in month 2 after breeding and then in months 5-6 and 9 of gestation.

Advice on correct application:

Before use, let the content of vial warm to 15 – 25°C and shake it thoroughly.

Withdrawal period:

Without withdrawal periods.

Special precautions for storage:

Keep out of reach and sight of children. Store in a refrigerator (2°C – 8°C). Protect from light. Store in a dry place.

Shelf life:

Shelf-life of the veterinary medicinal product in an intact container: 18 months. Shelf-life after first opening of a multidose package: 10 hours.

Special warnings:

Immunize healthy animals only.
In the case of accidental self-injury by an injectable product seek medical advice immediately and show the package insert or the label to the practitioner.
The product contains an oil adjuvant. Any accidental injecting/accidental self-injury caused by an injectable product may cause strong pain and swelling, especially if injected into a joint or finger, and in rare cases it could result in a loss of the affected finger if prompt medical attention is not provided.
If you are accidentally injected with this product, seek prompt medical advice even if only a very small amount has been injected, and take the package insert with you.
If pain persists for more than 12 hours after medical examination, seek medical advice again.
The product can be used during pregnancy. Safety of the veterinary medicinal product for use during lactation has not been established.

Additional information:

There is no information available regarding safety and efficacy of this vaccine if used concomitantly with another veterinary medicinal product. A decision to use this vaccine before or after any other veterinary medicinal product therefore needs to be made on a case-by-case basis. For veterinary use only.
