Indications:

For preventive vaccination of sows, gilts and boars against porcine parvovirosis and leptospirosis.

Contraindication:

None known.

Undesirable effects:

A slow gradual resorption of the depot of the administered antigen takes place in the administration site behind the ear, which disappears within 14 days after the vaccination.

Target species:

Pig

Mechanism of action:

Immunisation induces production of specific antibodies that protect embryos and foetuses of gilts and sows against parvovirosis and leptospirosis for the whole period of pregnancy. The high titres of post-vaccination antibodies in boars prevent parvovirus and leptospira replication in the genitals and reduce the risk of infection transmission during mounting.

Elevation of the titre of hemaglutination inhibition antibodies against porcine parvovirus and agglutination-lytic antibodies against each serovar of leptospira contained in the vaccine occurs after primovaccination (vaccination and revaccination).  The maximal level of postvaccination antibodies is detected 14 to 28 days after revaccination and these antibodies persist for at least 6 months after the vaccination.

Special precaution(s) for use:

Heat up the vaccine before use to a temperature of 15 to 25 °C and shake the content of the vial.

A small immune depot develops in the administration site in the muscles. This altered tissue must be removed upon check-up of the meat of pigs slaughtered within a period of 14 days after the vaccination.

The product belongs to a group of inactivated vaccines that do not normally cause adverse effects. Symptomatic treatment is recommended if anaphylactoid reaction occurs.

Use during pregnancy and lactation:

Considering the antigen inactivation, purification and overall composition of the vaccine, adverse effects of vaccination on pregnant animals can be excluded.

Interaction with other medicinal product and other forms of interaction:

Not known. The BIOSUIS PARVO L (6) vaccine can be simultaneously administered with other inactivated vaccines from the product range of the  Bioveta, a.s. Company.

Posology and method of administration:

2 ml intramuscularly.

Gilts and sows:

Primovaccination - two vaccine doses - vaccination and revaccination.

Vaccination 4 – 5 weeks prior to covering and in 2 – 3 weeks after vaccination is revaccination performed so that it is accomplished 2 – 3 weeks prior to covering. Further regular vaccinations always with one vaccination dose 2 – 4 weeks prior to covering.

Boars:

Primovaccination - two vaccine doses - vaccination and revaccination.

Vaccination 4 – 5 weeks prior to first covering or ejaculate collection and in 2 – 3 weeks after vaccination a revaccination is performed so that it is accomplished 2 – 3 weeks prior to first covering or inclusion of the boar to artificial insemination. To maintain immunity, revaccinate always with one vaccination dose within 6 months.

Further regular vaccination always with one vaccination dose of the BIOSUIS PARVO L (6) in sows and gilts 2 - 4 weeks prior to covering and in boars always one vaccination dose administered regularly within 6 months from the last vaccination. This immunisation procedure ensures protection of embryos and foetuses in sows and gilts against parvovirosis and leptospirosis and decrease the risk of transmitting parvovirus and leptospira from boars.

Overdose:

A double vaccination dose has no side-effects on the target animals.

Withdrawal period:

No withdrawal periods.
