A professional lecture by MVDr. Bc. Karel Paukner, Ph.D., Bioveta’s product manager for companion animals, was held at the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice at the end of last year. The lecture was organized under the auspices of the Slovak branch of our company. This is another example of linking the world of veterinary professionals from the pharmaceutical industry with the academic environment.
The profession of a veterinarian begins with a long six-year and demanding study. Future doctors must gain an overview not only of proven diagnostic and therapeutic procedures but also of the latest scientific knowledge that will influence the quality of care in their future practice. Unlike human medicine, veterinary education covers a wide range of animal species that differ not only in size but also in diet composition, daily routines, metabolism, and susceptibility to various specific (including infectious) diseases. Some infections, such as rabies or leptospirosis, also pose a threat to humans.
Bioveta recognizes the complexity of this profession and the importance of lifelong learning. Therefore, it actively creates educational platforms for veterinarians or supports them on a long-term basis. Part of this support includes involvement in the undergraduate education of veterinary medicine students.
At the end of last year, our product manager MVDr. Bc. Karel Paukner, Ph.D., traveled to Košice, where, as part of a seminar for students preparing for the final state exam on diseases of dogs and cats, he gave a lecture on the importance of vaccinating dogs from the perspective of protecting the health of animals and humans. He also discussed various perspectives of veterinarians, their assistants, breeders who bring thousands of puppies into the world annually, and owners who lovingly choose them.
The University of Košice, like the one in Brno, offers education not only within the domestic study program but also for international students in English. Therefore, two seminars were held for both language groups. At the end, Dr. Paukner met the local medical team to share experiences from working in specialized veterinary hospitals. Their mission is not only to provide quality care for dogs and cats but also to accept referred cases from colleagues and create an environment where both undergraduate and postgraduate students can actively participate.
Bioveta has been continuously supplying domestic and foreign markets with vaccines for dogs since the 1970s. These products are continuously innovated and improved. Thanks to proper vaccination, life-threatening infections can be effectively prevented, and nowadays veterinarians more often treat dogs with other diseases.
