Target species

Red fox (Vulpes vulpes) and racoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides)

Indication

For prophylactic oral vaccination of wild red foxes and racoon dogs against rabies.

Route of administration and dosage

Oral bait vaccine.

The bait is placed to the sites protected against direct sunlight and aer placement, it is covered with natural material (leaves, grass, plant lier, etc.) to protect from sun light.

In case that there is a direct contact of the person's hand with the bait, it is necessary to use protective gloves during bait placement, so that the baits were not affected by human smell.

The vaccine is given twice a year, in April - May and in September - October.

The distribution of vaccine baits must be spread evenly over the given territory. The baits are dropped/scattered 250 meters away from each other.

When the local epidemiological situation of rabies spring and autumn revaccination is recommended.

Precautions

The product is not intended for use in domestic animals and livestock.

Do not place baits in populated areas, on roads and near water bodies (lakes, rivers, reservoirs).

The vaccine can potentially cause mechanical damage of the gastrointestinal tract by the by the indigestible blister material.

The vaccine contains live attenuated rabies vaccine virus.

The vaccine contains live attenuated rabies vaccine antigen, therefore appropriate measures should be taken to avoid contamination of the person handling the vaccine by wearing appropriate protective clothing or gloves.

Therefore, if the vaccine antigen comes in contact with eye, nose, mouth or injured skin a person, this should be immediately reported to a physician. In this case, the applicable guidelines for rabies virus exposure should be followed.

The vaccination area should be as large as possible (preferably greater than 5,000 km2).

Aerial scattering of baits by any suitable flight device (eg. plane, helicopter, drones, etc.) is recommended for less populated and open areas.

Vaccination should be carried out twice a year for several consecutive years and at least two years after the last confirmed case of rabies in the region. However, vaccination should not be performed if the outside temperature is expected to reach 30 °C and above.

Storage

Keep frozen at -20 °C and lower.

When the vaccine is once thawed within 21 months limit of its shelf life, it can be stored between 2 °C and 8 °C for a maximum of 90 days.
