Antigen, when applied into the body of a vaccinated individual, is recognized as the foreign substance and therefore the certain range of protective mecha-nisms is activated in the organism (macrophages, opsonins, inter-leucines, B lymphocytes, etc.). Due to this activity, the specific antibodies against the antigenic determinants contained in both strains of the vaccinating B. burgdorferi are created. This specific antibodies are to hinder the consecutive developing of the infection when the organism is infected by the germs of the Lyme disease B. garinii, B. afzelii and protect the organism also against other strains e.g. B. burgdorferi sensu stricto due to the presence of the group antigens.
