Target animal species

Treatment of acute forms of otitis externa in dogs caused by bacteria and yeast sensitive to the active substances. In particular, these are representatives of the groups below:

Gram-positive bacteria:

Staphylococcus spp. (particularly S. intermedius, S. pseudintermedius and S. aureus), including methicillin-resistant strains.

Gram-negative bacteria:

Pseudomonas aeruginosa and E.coli.

Malassezia pachydermatis.

Do not use in animals hypersensitive to miconazole, polymyxin B or prednisolone, or some of the adjuvants. Do not use in animals with perforated eardrum (membrana tympani) due to the risk of the ototoxic effect of polymyxin B on auditory cells of the middle ear. Do not use concurrently with other substances known to cause ototoxicity. Do not use on deep and poorly healing deep lesions in the ear area. Do not use for infections with viral aetiology.

Adverse reactions (frequency and severity)

Adverse reactions associated with local administration of polymyxin B are very rare except for cases of noticeably damaged or ruptured eardrum. Adverse reactions associated with local administration of miconazole to sensitive individuals may lead to irritation with signs of erythema, oedema, pruritus and exudation. Their occurrence is rare. Local administration of prednisolone, especially with repeated and long-term exposure, causes skin atrophy and the associated health risks. The long-term use of local steroids may cause skin discoloration and prolong healing of wounds. In addition, there can be systemic adverse reactions common in glucocorticoid treatment (alterations of biochemical parameters – particularly elevated cortisol and liver enzymes). No adverse reactions have been found in the clinical study.

Method of administration: Auricular use.

Administer the product into the ear canal after prior cleaning with suitable ear cleaner, or after gentle removal of debris and cutting the hair. Massage thoroughly the base of the ear following administration.
Instil 5 drops of the product into the affected ear canal. Repeat the application twice a day, every 12 hours. Apply the product for 7 days. Continue the treatment without interruption for another 3 to 5 days until complete resolution of clinical symptoms. Treatment for 2-3 weeks is recommended for some persistent cases.
